New Report Highlights The Importance of Selecting A High Quality Hemp-Based CBD Product

Collaborative research study shows consumers should evaluate their products closely to ensure they receive the highest quality CBD hemp products; all CBD hemp-based products are clearly not the same.

COLORADO SPRINGS – November 07, 2017A recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) by the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System in conjunction with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine shows high CBD products’ contents often vary wildly from the manufacturers’ claims.

The study tested a variety of hemp-based CBD products available for purchase online. The samples included oils, tinctures, and vaporization liquids which were blinded and tested by a third-party laboratory three separate times to determine actual cannabinoid potency. Thirty percent of the CBD products tested within 10% of the amount listed on the product label.

The results are not surprising to Realm of Caring CEO Heather Jackson and highlight why it is so important to scrutinize manufacturing companies’ quality standards. “It’s a topic we’ve focused on since our inception: Quality of Product Matters. Consumers, particularly those we serve with life-limiting conditions, deserve trustworthy products of the utmost quality.”

Realm of Caring developed a process to assess the quality of products and maintains a ‘Seal of Approval’ for those who meet those standards. “To that end, we’ve partnered with several companies including CW Hemp, Elixinol and Mary’s Nutritionals who raise the bar and set an example for the entire industry.” For instance, third-party testing performed on CW Hemp’s Charlotte’s Web products over the last year show an average variance of only 0.32% for cannabidiol content. In addition, CW Hemp’s FDA registered lab achieved an excellence score of 98.9% while earning its GMP certification. None of the Realm of Caring approved partners had THC limits higher than the allowable threshold for hemp of 0.3%. “There are clearly companies committed to producing quality products, using national standards that already exist for botanical extracts including AHPA (American Herbal Product Association) guidelines, cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) set forth by the FDA, and having products independently tested by trustworthy labs,” Jackson says.

Realm of Caring is a 501c3 non-profit organization supporting those using cannabinoid therapies for a variety of serious diagnoses. Since the discovery of the endocannabinoid system in 1992 by Israeli scientist Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, scientific evidence has been gathered, but stalled, and the topic is still not addressed in medical curriculum. Realm of Caring fills an important role, collaborating with 5 accredited Universities on innovative research studies including the largest in the US. This registry tracks hospital utilization, side effects, and overall health satisfaction among many other validated measures. Physicians are a top referral source for the over 7,000 monthly incoming inquiries at the foundation, which is considered a hub for those considering the use of cannabinoid therapy.

The answer for consumers, Jackson says, is education. “The families we support are smart. Many have failed traditional treatments and sought out natural solutions prior to cannabis. They know to verify quality before using a product. Equipped with the right information, they will also know what to look for in a hemp extract and the questions to ask to easily seek out reliable manufacturers. The last thing we need to do is handcuff these families and prohibit their access to potentially life-changing options.”
